Dawn Walter

Dawn founded the Response-ability Summit, formerly the Anthropology + Technology Conference, in 2018. As a social anthropologist, Dawn believes that social scientists play a crucial role in the design and development of emerging technologies.

After migrating to New Zealand in 1997, Dawn established a business combining writing and technology. She then worked as a senior technical writer in various entrepreneurial start-ups and global corporations in IT, electronics, telecommunications, banking, accounting, and healthcare.

In the early 2000’s Dawn became increasingly interested in UX (user experience) and in 2006 went back to university to study Social Anthropology. She continued to work in the technology space during and after her studies.

She holds a BA (Hons) in European History (UEA), a BA (Hons) in Social Anthropology (University of Canterbury, NZ), and an MA (Hons) in Social Anthropology (University of Auckland, NZ).

Dawn returned to England in 2017, deciding to settle in the vibrant city of Bristol.

Dawn is an Elected Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. She is a member of the Association of Social Anthropologists (ASA) and the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA).
