Dagmar Steffens

Dagmar attained a Law Degree in her native Germany before studying Law again at London’s College of Law. She qualified as a Solicitor while working for magic circle law firm Slaughter and May in the City. After moving to Bristol, Dagmar practised as a corporate solicitor at Osborne Clarke before joining UWE. She initially taught on the Legal Practice Course, then moved across into academia with a focus on business-related Law, encompassing both teaching and research. For five years, Dagmar led UWE’s academic Law programmes as a member of the senior executive of the Law School, eventually becoming UWE’s Legal Tech lead.

Dagmar will soon join the West of England Combined Authority where she will be developing and leading the Authority’s Innovation and Sector Development Service, being created pursuant to the Industrial Strategy for the region, which was unveiled in July 2019. Her new role focusses on innovation in the region’s strength sectors, which the strategy identifies as advanced engineering and creative industries as well as professional services. Dagmar’s new role will enable her to pursue her interest in innovation generally, and particularly in the legal services sector, both as regards the Business of Law as well as Access to Justice.

Dagmar is also the co-founder of Bristol+Bath LegalTech, connecting and collaborating with law firms, not-for-profit organisations, entrepreneurs, individuals, and the tech community.
