Call for Panellists

We are hosting an online panel in early 2022 (date to be advised) with three or four social scientists — psychologists, anthropologists, sociologists, etc. — who have (successfully or unsuccessfully) set up a user research practice in their organisation and are willing to share strategies and tips.

We’re looking for people — ideally based in UK/Europe — who have championed social science in their organization, particularly start-ups, and gotten buy-in from management to demonstrate how anthropology, etc can have a positive impact on the design of tech. You might have started out as a user researcher in a product team, for example, but now have a more centralized role focusing primarily on social-science-led user research with the organisation.

We are particularly interested in people working in tech who have successfully convinced management that establishing a formal (user) research practice based on social science will make a significant impact to the company’s strategic direction. However, we are also interested in people who have done this in other sectors too.

In addition, we’d love to hear from people who have attempted this and not succeeded, and who are happy to share ‘lessons learned’.

We currently have one psychology-trained user researcher for our panel. We are now looking for other perspectives and experiences from disciplines such as anthropology and sociology.

About the panel event

The panel event will take place online, date to be advised, for approximately 60-90 minutes London time. It will be an opportunity for UK/Europe based social scientists, who want to establish a formal social-science-led user research practice within their organization, to discuss strategies, share ideas, and meet like-minded people.

This will be the beginning of what we hope might be a Response-ability ‘special interest group’, depending on the level of interest and need.

About Response-ability

The Response-ability Summit (formerly the Anthropology + Technology Conference) is a community established in 2018 that champions applied and academic social science within the tech/AI space. Our inaugural event took place in 2019 in Bristol, UK. Originally an event founded and organised by Dawn Walter of Mundy & Anson, Response-ability will become a stand-alone non-profit organisation in 2022.
